It's been a while since we've tackled some direct health topics but today we're going to share with you our concept of "Health Tokens." What is a health token? We're glad you asked.....You see after spending a lot of time around people from all different walks of life it seems one thing remains true for the majority of us, you either put in the work and pay now or you pay later.
Your health, just like your retirement fund, requires what we like to call consistent or regular deposits of health tokens. When you set up your retirement fund usually an advisor will ask you if you'd like to have a certain amount deducted from your checking account on a regular basis. This is to ensure the account grows consistently over time. For some people they NEED this little mindless activity because discipline, in all areas of their life, has been somewhat difficult.
On the contrary, there are some people who have no problem depositing varying amounts to their fund and even enjoy contributing a little extra whenever possible. Well, that same concept transfers over very well with regards to your health. You see everyday you have a choice to make a deposit or a withdrawal when it comes to your health.
For example, every workout you encounter counts as a deposit of "health tokens." The same holds true with the food choices you make i.e, choosing a salad with a side of lean meat would also count as a deposit, whereas going out for a night on the town with your cronies stuffing your face with fried foods, loads of beer and maybe even a late night double fudge brownie ice cream sundae would count as a heavy withdrawal from your "health bank."
Hopefully by this point you get where we're going with this - every good decision you make is like putting health tokens into your fund and viceversa. There's only one aspect of this whole concept left and thats the pay later option. For a lot of people here in the U.S. they have chosen to pay later enjoying all the different health threatening treats available on the market today. These people don't even think twice about their daily actions when it comes to their health and as a result they end up with NO health tokens towards the end of their life and have to literally pay just to break even or stay alive.
They pay in the form of excess prescription medications, extra doctors visits and copays, life altering surgeries and reduced mobility which deprives them of the ability to see all the things the world has to offer for those who paid their "health tokens" earlier in life. So ask yourself, how are my health funds looking lately? It's a simple concept but it can have a big impact on the way you look at your future of health.
