On The Wagon Off The Wagon

We all know people who struggle with creating consistent, long-term health habits.  Heck, maybe even YOU struggle staying on the wagon for long periods at a time.  Well what if we could give you a few pointers for creating life lasting change for you or someone you know?  It's actually quite simple and we're going to list some of the quickest ways to stay on the straightened health path.

Good habits are much harder to develop than bad ones.  The first thing you need to do to change is actually CHANGE.  Start in small increments.  For example, if you're the type that sleeps in and misses workouts for extra shut eye, start out by going to bed a 1/2 hour earlier.  This minor change in your sleep routine can help you gain an extra 3.5 hours of sleep a week.  Once this becomes a habit, you'll be able to increase that by another half hour and so on, as needed.

In order to remain on the wagon when it comes to your health the best thing to do is to surround yourself with foods that support you.  We all know the feeling of "eaters remorse", you know - you're sitting around feeling hungry and have been doing pretty well for a few days.  All of a sudden you have the urge to splurge and you down a bag or bucket of something unhealthy without really thinking about it and then feel like absolute shhhitake mushrooms.  You can't fall off the wagon if those foods aren't in your pantry.  Clean it up and stay focused.

Everyone has urges and the best thing you can do for yourself is stay committed to your goals for a healthier you.  It's good to reward yourself when you reach those goals too.  So set a goal, and then set up a celebration for the day when you meet your goal.  It doesn't have to be food related, (but it can be) it just has to be motivating enough to keep you focused. If you really love pizza and you've been paleo/primal for a while and you're goal is to be strict for 45-50 days in a row with no hiccups, then consider either a paleo pizza OR your favorite pizza of choice.

You're human so don't be ashamed by one meal.  In fact, this will actually help you stay on the wagon for the rest of your life.  We all are driven by different motives, be it selfish ones, our kids or our family.  Find what drives you and use it to move you forward in your journey towards a healthier you.    Stay tuned - more great  stuff is on the horizon.
