Wow, time flies when you're having fun! The holidays are here already! Crazy, right? SO, this season make sure you're going in with your game tight and right. After spending months working on creating a new and improved www.paleonola.com we felt compelled to give you a little more heading into the holiday season. Here are the top five things you need to know to make this holiday season your healthiest and happiest yet!
1) You don't get a free pass everyday: With so many holiday parties and celebrations coming up there are bound to be tons and tons of "cheat" foods lying around. Gluten-laden treats come out by the truckload during the holidays so watch what you put in your pie hole! Everyone lives crazy-busy lives, so maintaining an 80/20 balance works for most, just make sure you don't stretch it to 50/50 during this time of year citing the old excuse of, "it only happens once a year." If you struggle with these times it's even more important for you to have go-to snacks on hand. Check out our newly redesigned site www.paleonola.com to get better prepared for holiday snacking. Additionally, there are plenty of other great items out there.
2) Wash your mitts: Tis the season for joy, but it's also the season for colds and flus. The best thing you can do for yourself is remember to constantly wash your hands. With all the training and weight lifting you're doing :) it is very easy to pick up what someone left behind. Even the healthiest of beings leave germs laying around on barbells and pull-up stands. Wash your hands whenever you can. A good rule of thumb to remember is to wash anytime you leave a location.
3) Sleep sans alarm clock( if possible): You know the feeling, you're warm, cozy and in a deep deep sleep when all of a sudden your world gets rocked by a loud and obnoxious buzzing or chirp from your cellphone. The next thought that runs through your brain is "wow that sucked." That's not the best way to start any day, especially when this is the best time of year for sleep as the sun's position allows for maximum periods of darkness (at least on the east coast). Try going without an alarm clock altogether if possible by telling yourself before you go to bed what time you want to wake up. You'll be amazed how closely you can rise to the time you suggested to your brain. Other options include investing in a sleep tracker to gently wake you up at the best possible time during your sleep pattern. These things really do work and if you give them a chance, you'll definitely be able to tell the difference.
4) Slow it down: So many things to do and so little time. Such is life, so whether you're a hardcore trainer (think 5-6 days a week) or weekend warrior, try to take a break and relax. Stress can make it easier for you to feel run down and tired. Know your body and listen to it. No one cares if you missed one workout this week because you were up all night crafting a presentation or studying for a mid-term. As long as you don't compound the issue by stressing out about it, you'll be on your way to recovering and getting back on the wagon as quickly as possible.
5) Find solitude: It's damn near impossible to have a minute to yourself these days, especially during the holiday season. Company party, family reunion, New Year's Eve party etc, take a moment to find yourself. Even if it's 5 minutes, you'll be able to recharge and tackle the rest of your day with more focus and clarity than you would have if you didn't .
Lastly, enjoy each day. We started Paleonola to not only share the best Grain-Free granola around but also to find a way to contribute to all other aspects of health and wellness.
