Living Well, More Than Diet & Exercise

I've been struggling lately to find something meaningful to write as evidenced by the lack of posts in over 2 months.  Some people write content to publish online just for the sake of having to keep people engaged.  Luckily that's not our business and Paleonola is more about sharing things of value through our products first and our media outlets last.  Todays modern world throws enough at us every second of everyday that it's impossible to keep tabs on what's worth reading and what's just junk someone posted on their timeline.

In a time when we are more "connected" then ever, as a species, we are more ALONE then ever before.  For example, Facebook allows us to stay updated on the latest noise coming in from other peoples lives while helping us share our own noise with the world, but in reality who's actually listening?  You may have over 583 "friends" but the actual emotional connection that has been severed by technology can make that number irrelevant, which brings me to todays post. Living well is not just about eating the right food and exercising daily.

We have to look at our history as a society.  Our Paleolithic ancestors lived in tight knit tribes or communities which gave everyone a sense of belonging or feeling of being loved.  They could not survive back then by being an army of one.  It would have been impossible to fend off predators, gather an adequate amount of food and fulfill the complex emotional needs of a human being all by yourself.

Contrast this with todays society where we are more individualistic than ever before.  It's downright embarrassing that when you go out to eat you see plenty of heads hunched over with an eminent glow coming off of their faces because the tablet or device they are peering into is more important than the company that they are with.  Why is it that we've given up on interacting face-to-face with our own species and replaced it with communication methods that do nothing to stimulate the feelings that our genetics have been wired with since the beginning of time?

I have to laugh at the people who think that it would be positive for us as a society to completely move out of offices and into a world of work-from-home employees that make up large organizations.  That could quite possibly be the worst thing I've ever heard in terms of enhancing our "well-being" as individuals.  What we need is more interaction on a human level without modern day enabling devices present.  We're connected 100% of the time but does this increase productivity while compromising other aspects of our lives?

One can't help but argue that living well is an all encompassing adventure.  Diet and exercise is a great place to start but what about sleep, daily environment, real life social interaction with humans and nature and the ability to go out and play?  We believe that there's more to the puzzle than just developing great products that satisfy one component of the wheel, so take some time to unplug, let go and spend time with REAL friends because one real friend will make you feel more complete and fulfilled than the 583 friends on FB or the 40000 twitter followers you have.
