With day one now in the books for the Barrington, R.I. farmers market we just wanted to give everyone a little recap of todays events.
The weather was just perfect today and we were fortunate enough to not have heavy winds, even though the entire state was panicking over the tornado warning earlier this week. Being that this was our first time as a vendor at the market we really had no clue what to expect but were warmly welcomed by all those in attendance. We understand that for some people the idea of a Grain-Free granola is intriguing and we were extremely happy with all the questions and compliments that were rolling in. Even though we have a FAQ page on Paleonola.com we felt it was necessary to share some of the immediate questions that came up today just to try and give you some more information regarding our product. I've simplified the answers because I could talk all day about Paleo in general.
What's Paleonola? - Grain-Free Granola. There are NO oats, barley, wheat or other grains in our granola.
Why Grain-Free? - The majority of all the granolas out there are filled with oats and other grains and skimp on the stuff thats good for you like nuts, seeds and berries.
So what is Paleo? - More directly, living paleo means eating the types of whole food sources that were around during the Paleolithic era (aka Stone age) and avoiding things like grains, dairy and legumes. Eat mostly meats and vegetables; snack on things like nuts, seeds and berries.
But don't nuts have fat in them? - Yes. Nuts contain fat and protein which are both optimal choices of calorie replacement over grain based granolas due to a number of factors. Fat increases satiety, (the feeling of fullness) which in turn allows you to eat less overall versus grains which do not have the same chemical effect.
Bored yet? Sometimes what foods to eat in general can be quite tricky. If your looking to get healthier start with the basics and eat real food. From there you can get more involved in the "geek speak" if you'd like.
Also if you ever have any questions feel free to float them by me. I might not have the answer off the top of my head but can definitely find it or lead you in the right direction.
That's all for now. I am sure as the weeks continue we'll be adding to the questions list but for now you get the point. Thanks to all those who came down to the market and we hope to see you next weekend as well.
